$2000 Half-Time Shoot

In the middle of January John started the Eagle's (93.7 FM) annual $2000 Half-Time shoot. It's a really fun promotion that the radio station holds each year. John visits various high schools throughout the community as well Snow College during basketball season. He sets up a table where people attending the game can sign up for the event by entering a drawing. Each game two names are pulled out of the drawing and they have an opportunity to win $2000. The participants need to make a layup, free throw, three pointer and a half court shot in less than thirty seconds. This promotion lasts throughout the entire basketball season and is a lot of fun!

About three weeks ago we were worried that John might just loose his job ;) He was at a Snow College game on a Wednesday night and there was a student that made all four shots and therefore won the $2000. He always hates to tell his boss that he gave away the money but what can you do? That's what happens when you gamble.

On the following Friday, I went to a game with him in Delta. I didn't mind going with him because I don't see him a lot because I am in Salt Lake so much. The two people that were pulled out of the drawing looked pretty harmless. One was a woman in her mid twenties and then the other was a little boy that was about 13 years old (and a small 13 year old at that). I wasn't really concerned about either of them shooting and winning. Boy was I wrong! That little guy started shooting away and made it to the half court line with plenty of time to spare to try the half-court shot at least two times. Turns out he didn't even need the additional time that he had. He nailed that half-court shot! Yep, that means that in a period of 3 days the radiostation gave away $4000. It's kind of crazy! We might need to start looking for some supplemental income if john keeps giving his salary away at basketball games!

Last Saturday night, John gave the actual $2000 to the Snow College student that won the money a few weeks previous.

John brought 20 $100 bills and had one of the cheerleaders count it out to the student for the audience. As she was counting it out she ended up with only 19 $100 bills.

John told the winner that he gave the full amount to the cheeleader and that if he wanted the money he would to search her to find it. The cheerleader ended up giving the money to him. It was pretty funny - she played it up really well.

Overall it was a lot of fun.....but hopefully he won't give it away again any time soon.
